Sher Ali

This stunning miniature by Sher Ali shows two majestic lions being made to perform circus tricks. The rings of fire, the lions’ luxuriant manes and strained bodies, and their heart-wrenching expressions of exhaustion and helplessness are all exquisitely rendered by the artist, who uses the symbol of the captive lion to address the state of his homeland of Afghanistan.
